Behind the Scenes of “We Are Meant To Be” – A Visual Love Letter

by Christopher Louie

When I began creating the music video for “We Are Meant To Be,” I understood that this would be more than just a visual companion to the song—it would be a deeply personal narrative, a cinematic expression of longing, love, and the quiet hope that perhaps, even after everything, love can find its way back.

At its core, the song explores the concept of an eternal, spiritual bond—one that transcends physical separation, and perhaps even lifetimes. It’s about a love that lingers, refusing to fade. The speaker in the song is someone still tethered to a past connection—haunted by memories, pulled by emotions, and questioning whether fate has other plans. Despite efforts to move forward, they keep circling back to one person, as if the universe itself won’t let them let go. That persistent pull—the unexplainable magnetic force—is at the heart of both the music and the video.

From the very beginning, I envisioned the first frame of the video showing only the hands of the protagonist playing piano. This quiet moment honors the song’s delicate intro, which starts with a solo piano—gentle, vulnerable, and intimate. It then transitions to the protagonist alone at a dimly lit bar, drowning in melancholic reflection, his face heavy with the weight of memory. He misses her. We sense it immediately.

Throughout the video, visual cues hint that it was she who walked away from their connection. In repeated moments, we see her turning her back on him, her figure disappearing into the distance. Yet, her presence still lingers. Flashbacks of warmth—intimate embraces, tender face touches—serve as emotional echoes. These are not just memories, but emotional anchors reinforcing that this love was (and still is) real. He tries to move on, entertains other connections, but his heart remains elsewhere. She still occupies the center of his emotional universe.

Why does she continue to dominate his thoughts? Why does he feel incomplete without her? These questions fuel the video’s spiritual dimension. I wanted the visuals to suggest that this isn’t just a story of heartbreak, but one of divine orchestration. He believes—perhaps naively, perhaps prophetically—that their separation isn’t the end. That destiny still has a role to play, as implied by the verse:

I’m still very much in love with you,
even though we both have gone astray.
Others I have tried to pursue,
but you’d be on my mind at the end of the day.

My heart has no place for anyone new;
Tried as I might, the heart couldn’t be swayed,
‘cause no one else could compare to you;
My feelings for you refused to fade.

All of this must be clues,
that this is the Universe’s way,
to let me know that we are not through,
that you will be back with me someday.

To symbolize this, several scenes show him gazing up at the night sky, searching for answers in the stars. In one key frame, he spots a constellation that resembles two lovers locked in an embrace—a celestial metaphor for the hope that fate will reunite them. Later, in one of the most symbolic moments of the video, he and his love meet again by a serene lakeside under a blanket of stars. A shooting star crosses the sky just as they embrace—an intentional gesture meant to suggest that even the cosmos is rooting for their reunion.

The lake is far more than just a picturesque setting—it holds deep emotional and symbolic weight for the protagonist. It’s not only a romantic backdrop, but a sacred space woven into the fabric of their shared history. This is where they once spent countless afternoons lounging together in the meadow nearby, sipping tea and coffee, wrapped in conversation, laughter, and unspoken understanding. The lake witnessed their quiet moments of intimacy—the kind that don’t need grand declarations, just presence.

Now, in her absence, it has become his sanctuary. A place of solitude and stillness where he returns when the noise of the world becomes too much. When confusion takes over, and the ache of her absence feels unbearable, it is here that he seeks clarity. The lake reflects more than the night sky—it reflects him. Its calm surface masks the depth of what lies beneath, mirroring his own inner world: outwardly composed, yet brimming with emotion.

Each night he returns, not out of habit, but out of hope. Hope that the stars might offer a sign. That the wind might carry a whisper. That fate, or the divine, might guide her back to him. Because as the poem gently reveals, it was she who chose to walk away from their connection. And so now, in the silence of the lake and the stillness of his heart, he waits—not to chase after her, but to hold space for her return. He knows it must be her choice. Only then will their love be reborn on true, mutual terms—guided not by longing, but by destiny.

Throughout the video, the protagonist wears a black suit while the woman is always seen in a flowing white gown. This visual contrast wasn’t accidental—it reflects the poem’s underlying message that, despite their separation, they are fated to be together. The outfits were deliberately chosen to evoke the timeless imagery of a Bride and Groom—a subtle yet powerful nod to the idea that these two souls are destined to reunite. Their clothing hints at a fated future, symbolizing the deep spiritual bond that still ties them together, even through separation.

In the end, this video is about belief—belief in love, in timing, and in something greater than ourselves. It’s a story told in shadows, starlight, and silent glances. A story of someone who still holds on—not out of desperation, but out of conviction that they are meant to be.

Thank you for watching and for taking a moment to explore the creative journey behind this project. I hope these behind-the-scenes reflections offered a deeper look into the intention and emotion woven into every frame. I’d love to hear your thoughts, questions, or ideas—feel free to share them in the comments. And stay tuned for more windows into the heart of future releases.
