This song has always been one of my most vulnerable pieces, not because it reveals something about me, but because it reflects something universally human: the ache of loving someone who can’t or won’t meet you where you stand.
Unrequited Love explores the subtle unraveling of a connection that was once full of promise. At first, everything feels mutual—warm, attentive, hopeful. But slowly, the imbalance shows itself. Messages start going unanswered. Plans become loose suggestions that never materialize. And you begin to notice you’re always initiating, always giving, always waiting.
In the story the song tells, the other person isn’t intentionally cruel—they’re emotionally distant, guarded, and searching for fun but never depth. Their past has made them hesitant to offer anything real, and the result is a relationship built on mixed signals and quiet disappointments. You never meet their friends.
