”Unrequited Love” Featured on Slash-Music, Canada’s Biggest Music Platform

by Christopher Louie

When Slash-Music—the largest music media company in Canada—reached out to spotlight my track “Unrequited Love,”it felt like the song had finally found the platform where its emotional weight could fully resonate. This song has always been one of my most vulnerable pieces, not because it reveals something about me, but because it reflects something universally human: the ache of loving someone who can’t or won’t meet you where you stand.

Unrequited Love explores the subtle unraveling of a connection that was once full of promise. At first, everything feels mutual—warm, attentive, hopeful. But slowly, the imbalance shows itself. Messages start going unanswered. Plans become loose suggestions that never materialize. And you begin to notice you’re always initiating, always giving, always waiting.

In the story the song tells, the other person isn’t intentionally cruel—they’re emotionally distant, guarded, and searching for fun but never depth. Their past has made them hesitant to offer anything real, and the result is a relationship built on mixed signals and quiet disappointments. You never meet their friends. You never become part of their world. And yet, the heart still believes that if you hold on long enough, they might finally see your worth.

That lingering hope—that stubborn desire to fix what was never truly there—is the essence of unrequited love. It’s painful, confusing, and paradoxically magnetic. This track captures that contradiction: knowing you deserve better, yet wanting the one person who can’t give it.

Slash-Music’s feature brought new life to the song, highlighting its emotional storytelling and the relatable experiences embedded in its lyrics. This reimagined version originally appeared on Volume Four (Broken), and seeing it recognized on such a major platform reminds me why listeners often gravitate toward songs that echo their own unspoken stories.

For those who want to dive deeper, the full cinematic music video is available to stream for free on my YouTube channel, @christopherlouiepoetry. I wanted the visuals to reflect the quiet tension, the unanswered questions, and the invisible distance that defines one-sided love.

Unrequited Love is for anyone who’s ever cared too much for someone who cared too little—and held on anyway.
