“Why Do You Love Me?” (Wonder) | Music Video

by Christopher Louie

There are some stories that never stop echoing through time—stories that feel as alive today as they did centuries ago. My poem Why Do You Love Me?, with all of its questions, contradictions, tenderness, and ache, has always felt like one of those pieces. It isn’t a direct retelling of anything, yet its heartbeat aligns naturally with the timeless rhythm of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. That’s why I created a second music video—this time for the Wonder” version from my 6-track EP.

Unlike the original EDM mix, which leans energetic and pulse-driven, the Wonder version is slower, more ambient, and more atmospheric. It’s the kind of track that feels like drifting through a memory—soft edges, glowing lights, gentle echoes. Because of that emotional tone, the visual world this version needed was different. It needed something cinematic. Something tragic. Something tender. Something that could hold the poem’s questions the same way  Romeo and Julietheld theirs.

In the new video, the story of the star-crossed lovers becomes a visual metaphor for the poem’s narrative. Their longing mirrors the speaker’s longing. Their hesitation reflects his doubts. Their devotion, fierce and almost reckless, parallels lines like “I’ll shed my blood for you, just say when” and “I’ll stand by your side until the end.”

As the video unfolds, you’ll witness a reimagining of Shakespeare’s classic—from the first glimpse of Verona, to the iconic balcony moment where the lovers bare their hearts, all the way to the tragic ending that has defined their story for centuries. Each visual moment is meant to echo a question from the poem:

Why does love feel inevitable yet impossible?
Why does the heart believe even when nothing seems aligned?
Why do we keep reaching for someone who mirrors our soul?

The Wonder version’s ambient EDM style gave me room to let the emotions breathe—to stretch out the longing, the tension, and the quiet heartbreak. Instead of narrative speed, this version moves with emotional gravity. Slow pulses. Lingering glances. A feeling of two worlds almost touching but pulled apart by circumstance, just like Verona’s most famous lovers.

By pairing the poem with this classic story, my hope is that the video reminds us of something universal:
Love is a question as old as time—and yet somehow always brand new.

This second video isn’t just an alternate visual—it’s a deeper dive into the emotional undercurrent of Why Do You Love Me? It’s the same heart, but seen through a different lens. A softer one. A more haunting one. A version where the poem’s questions drift like whispers across centuries, landing gently inside the world of Romeo and Juliet.

I can’t wait for you to experience this new chapter.
Let the story unfold. Let the questions echo.
And let the wonder speak for itself.
