This poem delves into the common signs of infidelity, portraying the emotional turmoil that arises in a relationship plagued by suspicion. It begins by noting the partner’s changed demeanor, highlighting increased beauty, avoidance, and prolonged absences. The tone shifts to reflect growing indifference, frequent conflicts, and accusations of infidelity aimed at the speaker. As the relationship deteriorates, feelings of estrangement and loss of affection become evident. The speaker grapples with the unsettling notion of betrayal, ultimately seeking clarity by urging the partner to confess their potential disloyalty. This poem captures the haunting uncertainty of love tainted by deceit.

Something Up Your Sleeve

You’re different now, but why the change?
You’re looking more beautiful than normal.
You’ve been avoiding me and that is strange;
You’re spending more time away than usual.

You’re now indifferent in our exchange;
You either talk less or there’s more quarrel.
You would pick fights and call me derange;
Accused me of cheating and questioned my morals.

Your affections are gone; we grew estranged.
You’re up to something; you’re no longer cordial.
I am prepared for what fate has arranged;
Just tell me the truth, have you been disloyal?
