PROLOGUE
The poem draws inspiration from a Japanese legend about the enduring love between the sun and the moon. Despite being separated by time and space, their love is unwavering. The sun’s intense heat contrasts with the moon’s serene beauty, leading to moments of doubt for the moon. Yet, the sun cherishes her uniqueness, while the moon waits patiently for their reunion. Their longing culminates in the divine creation of an eclipse, which allows their reunion, thus symbolizing that true love can overcome obstacles. The moral emphasizes that with determination and faith, no love is impossible, and the Divine may respond to sincere devotion.
The Love Of The Sun And The Moon
The sun was once in love with the moon;
They were together at the beginning of time.
The sun’s love is intense especially at noon;
The moon’s love is serene and her beauty sublime.
The sun is hot for half a day and cold the next,
which causes the moon’s love to wax and wane;
This leaves the moon feeling very perplexed,
questioning whether he loves her the same.
But the sun loves her so very much;
It pains him each day that they’re not together.
Although within sight but they can’t touch;
Distance keeps them far from each other.
The moon remains mysterious to the sun;
He loves how she glimmers with just enough light.
She changes her appearance as if for tease and fun;
The moon looks different from night to night.
The moon’s love is loyal, and she’s always there,
She watches and waits for the sun’s return.
She is innocent, although aware,
that if not careful she could get burned.
The sun travels by day, and the moon by night;
The time difference keeps them apart.
Their paths don’t ever cross during their flights;
Not able to meet breaks their hearts.
Consumed with despair, they both have long waited;
Not being together, they feel incomplete.
God takes pity and the eclipse is created,
to allow them a chance to finally meet.
This shows if there’s a will then there’s a way,
that there is no impossible love.
Remain sincere and with faith you may
evoke a response from the Divine above.
