PROLOGUE
This poem discusses the concept of fate and destiny, often attributed to celestial influences on human affairs, particularly in romantic contexts. It reflects on love and memories associated with stargazing, evoking feelings of nostalgia for a lost relationship. The speaker recalls a night spent with a loved one, who believed their connection was destined. However, this belief is questioned as the speaker grapples with heartbreak and loss, feeling that their once-bright constellation of love has dimmed. Ultimately, they ponder whether their fate was truly written in the stars, given the reality of their separation and lingering pain.
Our Fate Was Written In The Stars
The sky is full of stars tonight,
shimmering under the pale moonlight
as the cool Autumn breeze blows against my face.
Our constellation, barely within sight,
doesn’t glow as strong as that night;
Without you, they slowly disappear from space.
The mood isn’t what it used to be;
Strong emotions beg to burst free
as nostalgia takes me on a memory trip
to that night where you cuddled next to me
as we watched the stars by the sea
where we traced our constellation with our fingertips.
That night we came up with many names
for that constellation that we claimed;
I still remember each and every one of them.
A walk down that memory lane
often triggers those repressed pain
because thoughts of that night usually overwhelm.
You said that our fate was bestowed
and written in the stars long ago,
that we were destined to meet and fall in love.
If that were true then why’d you go
and break the heart that would hold
a flame that burns brighter for you than any stars above?
Perhaps we weren’t meant to go far
as it was already written in the stars;
Without you, our constellation isn’t what it used to be.
My tears would continue to pour
for a love that doesn’t exist anymore,
when I see our constellation…
…..the one you named after me.
