PROLOGUE
This poem explores the theme of heartbreak and the struggle to move on from a past relationship. The speaker reflects on the emotional numbness that follows the abrupt departure of a loved one. They express feelings of betrayal and confusion, realizing that the love they thought was mutual was one-sided. The poem emphasizes the need to let go of memories associated with the other person, including their name, as part of the healing process. Ultimately, it reveals a transformation where the speaker no longer reacts to reminders of their lost love, acknowledging the pain and accepting the change within themselves.
I Don’t React When People Mention You
I loved you,
and even if I still do,
I dont’ react when people mention you.
You left without a word,
which was absurd;
No goodbyes; You didn’t want to be heard.
My heart’s now numb –
they said I got breadcrumbed,
that your looks and charms had me succumbed.
I thought you loved me,
till you set me free;
What we had was just wasn’t meant to be.
Emotions went null,
that day you let go;
What remains is just a corpse without a soul.
I’m no longer the same,
and you’re to blame;
I no longer react when I hear your name.
