PROLOGUE
This poem reflects on the difficult process of letting go of a relationship that has become counterproductive. The speaker acknowledges the unexpected depth of their feelings but recognizes the incompatibility of their desires, with one partner seeking commitment while the other prefers freedom. Ultimately, the speaker decides to part ways, understanding that holding onto hope for a future together is futile. They express sorrow over the loss but prioritize their emotional well-being, wishing their partner happiness and closure. This poem encapsulates themes of acceptance, heartache, and the importance of moving forward to find true fulfillment.
Goodbye
Didn’t expect to fall for you;
Thought you were just a distraction.
So surprised and little I knew,
that we’d have such strong attractions.
What was fun and games at first,
brought me so much tears and blues.
This now feels more like a curse
‘cause I cannot be with you.
Seeing you again is futile;
You don’t offer security or hope.
Being with you offers me little;
Settling down is out of your scope.
You’re a bird that needs to be free;
There’s no chance to tie you down.
You may feel something for me,
but not enough to stay around.
It broke my heart when I knew
that what we had wouldn’t last;
There was nothing more we could do
but to let go of our past.
You deny me the closure I’m after;
I don’t have much more to say.
It’s time for me to close this chapter,
and truly be on my way.
Enough with this sappiness;
This fantasy’s gone on long enough.
I wish you good fortune and happiness,
and that one day you’ll find true love.
Thank you for the memories;
There’s nothing left for me here.
Goodbye and no more worries,
I will magically disappear.
