PROLOGUE
This poem explores the tension between emotional connection and past trauma, highlighting the confusion felt when a lover abruptly leaves. The speaker reflects on the broken promises and the pain caused by the sudden end of friendship and love, questioning the sincerity of their partner’s words. They express a desire for growth together, acknowledging the impact of past relationships on their partner’s fears about commitment. The underlying message urges the partner to choose love over fear, advocating for trust and faith in their feelings, encouraging them to follow their heart despite emotional struggles.
Follow Your Heart
You said you never intend
to stop being my friend;
But you lied when you allowed our friendship to end.
You said the last time we were together,
that you love me and there were no others;
But you left me so there must be other lovers.
My intention as I have disclosed
was for the two of us to grow old;
But you had other plans when you suddenly went cold.
What you and I already knew
your past love did a number on you;
But it’s unfair to think I’d do the same to you too.
You should have faith and trust
if deep down you believe in us;
Fight for our future or this love will bite the dust.
Follow your heart and not your head
if your feelings for me aren’t dead.
If you still love me, then you should trust what I said.
