A Love Proposition

PROLOGUE

The poem is a love letter reflecting on the inevitability of time and death, emphasizing the importance of creating offspring to preserve beauty for future generations. The speaker expresses a desire to build a family with their beloved, urging them to embrace love rather than face the loneliness that awaits.

A Love Proposition

You are a creature of splendid beauty;
Why reject every love you receive?
To end up alone is such a cruelty,
a prospect you face that no one believes.

So many suitors wait at your door,
Yet you would only flirt and tease.
Your intentions only go so far;
You have always done as you please.

Quintessence of all that’s beautiful and rare,
Your face is more exquisite than you admit.
Wherever you go, heads turn and eyes would stare;
When it comes to love, you would never commit.

But your youthful days are quickly numbered;
Not to say you are no longer beautiful.
Like great wine, your beauty’s unencumbered;
Aging only makes you more irresistible.

But doesn’t loneliness bring you fear?
You may be the most beautiful creature alive.
But time and death make everything disappear;
Only by reproducing will your beauty survive.

To deprive future generations of your splendor
is indeed a cruelty to mankind;
Should love prevail and you are ready to surrender,
my heart is yours if you don’t decline.
