PROLOGUE
This poem presents a retelling of the classic tale “Cinderella” from Prince Charming’s perspective. He describes his initial boredom at a royal gathering, where a captivating stranger enters, instantly illuminating the room with her beauty. He approaches her, and they share a mesmerizing dance filled with effortless connection. However, she abruptly leaves, leaving behind a glass slipper. Determined to find her, the prince declares that whoever fits the slipper will be his bride. Eventually, they reunite and pledge eternal love, promising to remain together until death parts them. This version infuses a fresh, romantic viewpoint into Charle’s Perrault’s beloved story.
You Lit The Room With Your Graceful Beauty
I had been bored,
with nothing to look towards,
staring at an empty room filled with hundreds pairs of eyes.
They all looked at me,
I couldn’t help but not see,
how they vied for my attention like I was some kind of prize.
Just when I was about to leave,
by good fortune in disbelief,
a vision of loveliness had me consumed.
In walked your beauty,
which instantly drew me,
and captivated the rest of the room.
You tread with such lightness,
while radiating much brightness,
as you entered through the door.
Your eyes sparkled like diamonds,
like Venus standing on the horizon,
I had never been graced with such beauty before.
Towards you I quickly approached,
your space I politely encroached,
tonight I’d like to make your acquaintance.
You smiled with radiance,
your eyes exuded innocence,
time was spent with effortless patience.
You agreed to a dance,
your face put me in a trance,
as the room spun and time flew with ease.
When we were finally alone,
I made my intentions known
that your heart I intended to seize.
And not before long,
something went wrong,
you apologized and quickly ran away.
I swiftly gave chase,
and saw you left my place,
with only your glass slipper that stayed.
I vowed for us to meet again
and proclaimed to all the land
that whoever fit this slipper I shall wed.
Soon we found each other
and vowed to be together
until the day we are parted by death.
