“Why Do You Love Me?”

by Christopher Louie

PROLOGUE

An individual questions their partner about the reasons for their love, drawing parallels to natural phenomena like the rising sun and the spinning earth. The answers to such profound inquiries often elude verbal explanations, as love is inherently instinctual and fundamental. The speaker explores feelings of connection through various emotions tied to love, including joy, longing, and pain associated with separation. They express a deep commitment and an overwhelming affection that transcends mere friendship, culminating in the understanding that love exists simply because it must, resonating with the essence of life itself.

“Why Do You Love Me?”

Ask why the sun rises and the earth spins on its axis.
Why does the day turn dark when the night relaxes?

Why does the moon hide when the sun begins to shine?
Why do I believe in us when nothing seems aligned?

Why does my heart flutter when you are near?
And why do memories of you bring me to tears?

Why does my heart ache when we are apart?
Why does losing you numb my fervid heart?

Why do the stars fade when the clouds roll in high?
Why do I hold onto hope when tears are in my eye?

Why does the wind shift when I think I’ve found my way?
Why do I believe that you’ll return someday?

Why do I see you as more than a friend?
I’ll shed my blood for you, just say when.

Through stormy nights and skies that bend,
I’ll stand by your side until the end.

No matter the storms, the doubts, or what I miss,
I hold on still, because that’s the way it is.

Through storms and calm, through time and space,
I know our bond is meant to embrace.

Through every question, every heartfelt plea,
The truth remains — that’s how it’s meant to be.

Why do I get butterflies whenever you’re close?
So why do I love you? ‘Cuz that’s just how it goes…
