We Need To Let Each Other Go, Track 4 from “Winter Rhapsody Volume 5: Moonlit Lanterns”

by Christopher Louie

As I prepare for the release of my upcoming fifth instrumental album on February 17, 2026, I’m sharing a short preview of a piece that holds a meaningful place within the project: “Track 4. We Need To Let Each Other Go.” This album leans into the expressive qualities of East Asian instrumentation, with bamboo flute and bowed strings guiding the emotional tone of each composition. Even in its instrumental form, this track carries an unmistakable sense of reflection and release.

“We Need To Let Each Other Go” is rooted in a poem that examines the difficult moment when two people realize that their connection can’t be sustained, no matter how much history or longing binds them. The narrative follows the quiet struggle of holding on, the hope that reconciliation might be possible, and the eventual acceptance that both individuals must choose to let the bond dissolve for true closure to emerge. It’s a story of love that has shaped two lives, even as those lives now have to move in different directions.

In this instrumental interpretation, I wanted the emotional landscape to speak for itself. The sweeping strings and breathy flute lines echo the tension between attachment and acceptance—the kind of inner dialogue that unfolds silently, long before the final goodbye is spoken. The piece reflects that turning point where sorrow, clarity, and peace begin to coexist.

This preview is just a glimpse into the album’s wider world, a collection shaped by themes of transition, emotional depth, and the quiet strength that comes with letting go. As the full release approaches on Chinese New Year, I’m grateful to share this moment and invite listeners into the atmosphere the music creates.
