The First Date
Dusk with orange peel colored sky
hung outside above the car window pane.
Glancing at my watch for the current time,
as I counted down the hours that remained.
In the distance I could see the highrise,
while traffic slowed down due to the rain.
I texted you my ETA and apprised,
that the evening traffic had me detained.
“Don’t worry, drive safely” was your reply.
My excitement could no longer be contained.
This was us meeting for the first time.
I hoped all these efforts wouldn’t be in vain.
I looked ‘round the room for you as I arrived;
so many thoughts racing through my brain.
Worries of being catfished crossed my mind;
“Don’t be silly!” my inner voice exclaimed.
I wondered what meeting you would be like,
whether you would be pleasant or insane;
And what to do if things went awry,
or if you showed a look of disdain?
Then I looked up, and much to my surprise,
as all faith in the Divine was regained.
A vision of beauty laid before my eyes;
I gasped as the blood from my face drained.
You looked familiar, my memory decried,
perhaps from a past life, it so claimed.
Your face was going to be my demise;
The instant attraction was hard to explain.
Talking with you was easy as time flew by;
We had interests and dreams that were the same.
Being with you felt so calm and right;
That night I found my soulmate, my twin flame.
