What began as a poem about strangers meeting one fateful night blossomed into a cinematic love story woven with themes of destiny, soul connections, and the bittersweet lessons of love.
The poem tells of two strangers who lock eyes across a room and feel an instant, almost otherworldly connection. Their encounter feels strangely familiar, echoing the belief in past lives and soul contracts. At first, their bond grows deeper and more magnetic. But soon, the connection reveals its true nature: karmic. One partner withdraws, leaving the other to confront the truth—that this love was never meant to last. In the end, the speaker chooses empowerment over heartbreak, leaving first before being left behind.
This track quickly became one of my most well-received works. Originally released in two versions—a slow, haunting ballad and an alternative beat-driven cut—the choice of which would lead the album was left up to the fans. After posting samples on Instagram, listeners overwhelmingly gravitated toward the slower version, and it became the emotional centerpiece of the record, with the alternate version closing the album as a reflective bookend.
The song’s popularity cemented it as a favorite, later earning its place on The Remixes album. Surprisingly, the remix—with its faster tempo and driving dance beats—gave the track a new life, transforming heartbreak into a rhythm you could move to. Listeners often rank it among the standout tracks of the collection.
With so much history and resonance behind it, I knew the music video had to deliver. The vision: to set the story inside a luxurious hotel—the same place where the two characters’ fated meeting occurs. While reimagining scenes from the original video, I also added new layers of storytelling, blending romance, mysticism, and reincarnation into a striking visual narrative.
The concept draws heavily on the spiritual idea of a karmic connection—a relationship that feels destined, powerful, and transformative, but ultimately exists to teach rather than to last. In the video’s first half, the lovers are seen basking in the ease of their connection, believing they’ve found something eternal. But Fate, personified as an elderly sage cloaked in green embroidery, quietly lingers in the background, ready to shift their course.
One of the most poignant visual motifs shows a faceless couple walking through a mirror, symbolizing the cycle of reincarnation. They are destined to find one another again and again across lifetimes, each meeting carrying unfinished business, each parting a lesson. The video plays with this tension—between love’s familiarity and its impermanence—mirroring the poem’s haunting refrain:

Cycles of Love and Loss
In bringing “I Left You Before You Could Leave Me” to life visually, I wanted to go beyond a simple retelling of heartbreak. The music video unfolds like a spiritual journey, weaving together themes of reincarnation, destiny, and the unraveling of a love that was never meant to last.
To symbolize the reincarnation process, the video introduces scenes of glowing wormholes, spinning like portals between lifetimes—mystical gateways that suggest the lovers have crossed paths before and will meet again. But just as the cosmic magic takes hold, the story shifts, and a darker mood emerges.
The narrative then pivots to conflict: the couple’s differences come to the surface in an emotionally charged fight. She is portrayed as fiery and hot-tempered, clutching a vase in anger, tempted to shatter it in rage—perhaps even at him. Ultimately, she restrains herself, though her resentment is palpable. He, in stark contrast, remains calm and grounded, a man still deeply in love and willing to endure the storm. His quiet strength is shown in his patience, even as he speaks reason into the air, while she stubbornly plugs her ears, refusing to listen.
Through this clash, the fragility of their bond is revealed. What once felt fated and eternal becomes clearly unsustainable. The protagonist begins to realize that the love he believed in may have been only an illusion, a karmic test rather than a lasting union. With heartbreak looming, he makes the difficult but necessary choice: to leave first, protecting his own heart before it is inevitably broken by abandonment.
The video closes as both a story and a lesson—love can feel destined, powerful, and magnetic, but sometimes it exists only to teach us what we must one day release.
