Follow Your Heart (Digital Dream), Track 1 from “Winter Rhapsody Volume 3: Crystal Reverie”

by Christopher Louie

“Follow Your Heart (Digital Dream – Instrumental)” opens Winter Rhapsody Volume 3: Crystal Reverie with a blend of emotional vulnerability and hopeful yearning. While the album is entirely instrumental—guided by harp and flute with gentle support from piano and other string instruments—the emotional depth of this track is rooted in the poem it’s based on, Follow Your Heart.

This poem explores a painful tension: the desire for emotional connection colliding with the lingering effects of past trauma. It reflects the confusion that surfaces when someone you love suddenly withdraws—when a relationship full of promise abruptly unravels, leaving behind questions that feel impossible to answer. In the poem, the speaker wrestles with broken promises, the abrupt severing of love and friendship, and the lingering ache of wondering whether the affectionate words spoken to them were ever truly sincere.

At its core, the poem acknowledges how past relationships can shape someone’s fears—how unresolved wounds from former partners can make vulnerability feel dangerous, and how that fear can push a person away even when they desire closeness. Through this piece, I wanted to offer a message that encourages choosing love over fear: urging the partner to trust the connection, to lean into affection rather than run from it, and to follow their heart despite whatever emotional struggles still echo from the past.

The instrumental track carries that emotional contradiction—the pull between longing and hesitation, hope and hurt. It’s an invitation to reflect, to feel, and ultimately to believe in the possibility of growth together.
