My debut album, aptly titled “Volume One (I Left You Before You Could Leave Me)” features 10 original songs based on my poetry with a bonus alternate track of the titular song “I Left You Before You Could Leave Me”. The album carries a consistent theme of love loss across mutiple music genres that include pop rock, alternative rock, indie-pop, soul R&B, hip-hop, electronic dance/techno and country.
Leading the album is I Left You Before You Could Leave Me, an upbeat ballad about first encounter between two strangers marked by a profound connection that felt strangely familiar, alluding to a deeper bond forged from a previous lifetime. However, one partner’s emotional withdrawal ulitimate transformed the other’s love into a painful lesson, leading to a decision to end the relationship before being abandoned. If You Love Something, Set It Free reflects on the emotional complexities of love and sacrifice, inspired by a very popular proverb coined by Richard Bach. Follow Your Heart is a catchy and upbeat song that explores the tension between emotional connection and past trauma, highlighting the confusion felt when a lover abruptly left. The speaker advocates for their partner to follow their heart instead of their mind to take a chance for a reconciliation instead of succumbing to overthinking that could destroy the beautiful bond that still exists between them. Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder is a country ballad that was crafted based on another famous proverb that reflects on how separation enhances feelings of love and longing. This song articulates the emotional turmoil of missing a beloved and expresses how their absence intensifies affection and appreciation for their partner’s love while affirming a desire for a reunion. Let Me Not Be The One You Spurn addresses the fear of rejection when approaching a love interest. Internal struggle of wanting to connect while grappling with self doubt and anxiety about the possibility of being spurned is the theme captured throughout the song. Dancing Under The Moonlight reflects on the unspoken tension between two shy individuals who struggle to make eye contact and communicate despite romantic interests. The silence between them leads one individual to envision a potential meaningful moments and connection by fantasizing about taking the other person out for dinner and dancing under the moonlight. However, just as the speaker gathers the courage to engage, the other person departs, leaving the speaker determined to seize the opportunity another time. A Missed Connection is a fun play on the theme of reminiscing over missed chances. Two strangers experienced a brief yet significant connection where their interactions sparked an undeniable attraction, leading to a hopeful plea to reconnect. Something Up Your Sleeve delves into the common signs of infidelity with an individual noting the partner’s changed demeanor, highlighting increased beauty, avoidance, and prolonged absences. This song captures the haunting uncertainty of love tainted by deceit.
I Underestimated How Important You Are In My Life explores the theme of regret and the realization of lost love over time. The speaker reflected on their past relationship, acknowledging that they took their partner for granted and failed to recognize their significance until it was too late. I Lost Myself For A While rummages into the emotional turmoil of losing oneself in a relationship, emphasizing the pain of sacrificing personal identity and needs for the sake of love. Finally, an alternate version of I Left You Before You Could Leave Me rounds out the finale with a catchy melody that blends the indie-pop genre with alternative-rock.
