Behind the Scenes: The Cosmic Journey of “The Timing Just Wasn’t Right For Us” Music Video

by Christopher Louie

The Timing Just Wasn’t Right For Us was written for anyone who’s ever loved deeply—found their “right person”—only to lose them to the cruelties of timing, circumstance, or unhealed wounds from the past. It tells the story of two souls who were destined for each other, yet met at an inopportune moment. Bound by an unshakable connection, they are kept apart by external forces—obligations, unresolved trauma, and the inevitable drift that occurs when fate’s timing is off.

The heart of the song lies in its unwavering hope. The love between them remains steadfast, the bond unbroken, as they cling to the belief that divine timing will bring them together again. There is regret for missed chances, but also faith—faith that the stars will one day align in their favor.

When I began conceptualizing the music video, I wanted the visuals to be “out of this world”—quite literally. The theme revolved around the cosmos, space, stars, and galaxies. In the poem, fate and destiny are central forces, and I wanted the video to embody that cosmic energy. The imagery reflects the belief that only when the stars align can two souls truly unite; otherwise, the relationship risks crumbling, as expressed in the verse:

By the Universe’s design,
the stars momentarily aligned
when you and I were brought together,
but only for a short time,
as Fate had other plans in mind
when Destiny wouldn’t keep us tethered.

Every frame of the video unfolds against a tapestry of nebulae and star clusters. To create a cohesive mood, I worked with a color palette of deep-space purples and soft pinks set against the endless dark of the night sky. The narrative is told from the male protagonist’s perspective, so the female character often appears sorrowful, disappointed, or turning away—his interpretation of her emotional distance. In one pivotal scene, she is shown in tears as he speaks, a direct visual homage to the verse:

Or it’d be the wrong things we say,
that made it hard for you to stay
and difficult for this connection to last.

Because the core theme is bad timing, I incorporated recurring imagery of a massive cosmic clock—its vast, gleaming face suspended in an endless expanse of stars, as if carved into the very fabric of the night sky. Its hands move almost imperceptibly, each sweep so slow it’s as if the universe itself has decided there’s no reason to rush. And yet, that steady, deliberate turning is an inescapable reminder of fate’s unyielding march—always advancing, never faltering, even when our own hearts beg it to wait. Through its crystalline center, the intricate inner workings are laid bare: a labyrinth of interlocking gears, polished to a mirror sheen, turning with the quiet precision of a mechanism that has existed since the dawn of time. Some gears are immense, grinding forward with regal patience; others are no bigger than a grain of sand, spinning in quicksilver bursts, each one essential to the whole.

In this story, Fate and Destiny take on distinct personas, almost like characters in a mythological drama. Fate is portrayed as a luminous celestial woman whose presence instantly shifts the energy of a scene. She has cascading waves of golden-blonde hair that seem to shimmer with stardust, and her white gown flows as though caught in a gentle cosmic breeze, moving even when the surrounding space is still. In her hands, she carries a golden scale—perfectly balanced—which represents karmic law, universal equilibrium, and the idea that every meeting, every separation, and every turn of the cosmic wheel is part of a greater, balanced design.

When she appears, the lighting changes completely—the scene is bathed in a warm, ethereal glow, as though the universe is gently pausing to acknowledge her authority. Tiny motes of golden light drift in the air around her, like fragments of constellations breaking apart to form her presence. She is silent, never speaking a word, yet her very existence radiates harmony, compassion, and a quiet, unshakable certainty that everything is unfolding exactly as it should. Fate is not in a hurry—her movements are slow, deliberate, almost like a conductor guiding a symphony we can’t yet hear.

Destiny, however, is chaos. It manifests as bursts of fiery explosions and turbulent energy—volatile, destructive, the force that ultimately pulls the lovers apart. In this narrative, Fate brought them together, but Destiny refused to keep them tethered.

This song and video are for anyone who believes that separation is not an ending, but a pause—a temporary chapter in a much larger story. It speaks to those who understand that a love forged in truth and vulnerability cannot be undone by mere miles or the passing of time. In the narrative, the bond between the two characters is portrayed as an unshakable tether—something invisible yet felt in every heartbeat, every glance, and every moment of silence between them. It’s a connection that transcends physical presence, carrying an energy so strong that no force in the universe can truly sever it.

The speaker holds an unwavering belief that God’s hand is guiding their path. This conviction isn’t just hinted at—it’s visually woven into the video’s tapestry. One pivotal scene shows a divine figure, bathed in radiant golden light, high above the earthly realm. God’s form is not depicted in rigid detail, but rather as a presence of overwhelming warmth and serenity—glowing with a celestial brilliance that illuminates everything in the frame. His hands are clasped firmly, enveloped in a soft, golden radiance that shines forth like warm sunlight. The glow intensifies with each passing moment, casting warm beams across the scene, a silent yet profound gesture that speaks of divine favor—bestowing blessings upon him from the boundless heights of the heavens.

This moment transitions into their reunion, a sequence drenched in joy and relief. They are seen running by each other’s side. Above them, the sky is a living masterpiece: vast stretches of deep indigo punctuated by galaxies, nebulae, and shimmering constellations with shooting stars lighting up the skies. The stars seem to pulse in rhythm with their laughter, as though the cosmos itself is rejoicing in their togetherness.

Once united, their bodies lie low on the meadow, occasionally leaning into each other with quiet smiles. Every frame captures the reverence they hold for this moment, as if both know how rare and precious it truly is. There is no rush—only the luxury of presence, the bliss of finally being where they belong. The scene lingers, letting the audience feel that same sense of gratitude and wonder, before the story gently shifts toward its closing.

The video closes on a poignant, almost bittersweet note. The speaker stands alone in the meadow, bathed in the soft glow of starlight, his figure framed against the vast expanse of the cosmos. His gaze drifts upward toward the heavens, eyes reflecting both longing and quiet faith, as though searching for a sign that the moment he’s been waiting for is drawing near.

Suspended among the stars, the massive cosmic clock looms—its great circular frame edged in gold, intricate gears turning in perfect harmony. The hands sweep slowly yet deliberately, each tick and tock a whisper from the universe itself, reminding him that time is not stagnant, that the wheel of fate is always in motion. The clock’s surface shimmers with constellations that subtly shift and realign, hinting at the unseen forces working to shape his destiny.

The scene lingers for a few moments more, until the world around him is completely enveloped in a warm golden light—leaving the audience with the unshakable sense that somewhere, in the grand design of the universe, their reunion is already written.
