A Promise Kept (Covenant) | Official Music Video

by Christopher Louie

There are stories that quietly stay with you, no matter how many seasons pass. They don’t ask to be remembered—they simply are. Today, I’m honored to announce the release of the official music video for “A Promise Kept (Covenant)”, a brand new song and visual chapter from my upcoming 7-track EP, A Promise Kept. This track holds a particularly special place in my heart, because it is where the emotional core of the entire EP truly comes into focus.

For those familiar with my earlier work, the original “A Promise Kept” was first released earlier this year as a rock ballad on my album Volume Three (A Promise Kept). That version captured the raw emotional weight of the story in its purest form. With Covenant, I return to that same emotional foundation—but from a new perspective—expanding, reshaping, and deepening the narrative into something more reflective and intimate.

“A Promise Kept (Covenant)” is Track #3 on the upcoming EP, and it represents the soul of first love—the kind formed in innocence, shaped by devotion, and ended by forces far beyond the lovers’ control. The story it tells is fictional, but the emotions it draws upon are universal. First love has a way of defining us, not because it lasts forever, but because it shows us what forever felt like when we first believed in it.

The song is based on my poem of the same name, written from the perspective of someone looking back on a childhood bond that once felt unbreakable. It unfolds in winter—a season that returns again and again throughout the EP—not just as a setting, but as a feeling. Snow falling quietly outside. Cold air carrying memories. Silence heavy with everything left unsaid.

At the center of the story are two children who grew up side by side, best friends since their earliest years. They shared laughter, imagination, and a secret hideaway beneath an old oak tree—a trunk hole that became their private universe. It was there they rehearsed playful wedding vows, there they made promises only children can make with complete sincerity. A promise whispered without hesitation:
“I’d love you forever, if fate allows.”

But fate rarely asks permission.

In this story, young love is interrupted when the girl’s parents intervene, disapproving of the bond forming between the two children. One winter becomes their last together. Her family moves away, leaving behind unanswered questions, lingering devotion, and a heartbreak that arrives far too early. That moment—watching someone you love disappear down a road you can’t follow—is the emotional axis around which this song turns.

The music video for “A Promise Kept (Covenant)” visually reflects that quiet devastation and enduring tenderness. It leans into restraint rather than spectacle, allowing memory, atmosphere, and emotion to carry the narrative. Like the song itself, the video moves gently—echoing snowfall, fading light, and the slow realization that some promises are kept not through reunion, but through remembrance.

As the years pass in the story, life continues. Seasons change. Winters return. The person once loved grows into someone else’s present. Yet the promise remains—not because it was spoken again, but because it was never truly released. That lingering devotion, that loyalty to a love long gone, is what the song ultimately explores. Sometimes, the deepest promises are the ones we never realize we’re still honoring.

“A Promise Kept (Covenant)” is one of three newly reimagined narrative tracks on the EP, alongside Oath and Pledge. Together, they examine the same story from different emotional angles—devotion, separation, and enduring love—each with its own musical identity. Covenant serves as the emotional anchor: solemn, heartfelt, and quietly devastating.

This song, and this video, are about what first love leaves behind—its innocence, its ache, and its permanence. Because even when a story ends, the feelings don’t vanish. They settle into memory, like snow that falls year after year, reshaping the landscape without ever asking to be noticed.

I’m incredibly excited to finally share “A Promise Kept (Covenant)” with you. This chapter builds upon the foundation laid by the original rock ballad and allows the story to breathe in a new way—more reflective, more cinematic, and more intimate.

Some promises are spoken.
Some are remembered.
And some are kept—long after we believe the story is over.
