‘The First Date’ — a 4-Track EP Arriving December 5

by Christopher Louie

Every project begins with a spark—sometimes a melody, sometimes a mood, and sometimes a story that insists on being told. My upcoming 4-track EP, The First Date, arriving December 5, began exactly that way: as a narrative I felt compelled to explore, shape, and breathe life into.

This EP releases one week before Winter Rhapsody Volume 1: Dawn of Solitude, intentionally giving listeners the chance to experience The First Date in its original poetic and musical form before it returns in a fully reimagined instrumental version as the opening track to the first volume of my five-part Winter Rhapsody series.

In many ways, this EP serves as the emotional doorway into the winter collection.

The Story That Became a Poem

The First Date started as a creative piece—a poem that captures the universal emotions surrounding anticipation, curiosity, and the quiet vulnerability of meeting someone for the very first time. The poem uses an ABAB rhyme scheme throughout each stanza, with the A-lines echoing the sound of ‘sky’ and the B-lines rhyming with ‘pane’. The narrative embodies experiences so many of us know well: the nervous countdown, the unknowns, the “what-ifs,” and the moment when uncertainty and excitement collide.

The poem opens with an atmospheric scene:

“Dusk stretched across the orange sky,
hung soft above the car window pane.”

From there, the story follows a character moving through a rain-slowed cityscape, texting to explain their delay and wrestling with the typical anxieties of first impressions:

“I looked around when I arrived;
A thousand thoughts ran through my brain.”

What guided me while writing wasn’t personal memory—it was empathy. I wanted to capture the emotional cadence that any of us might feel if placed in that moment: the internal dialogue, the anxious imaginings, the hopes we’re almost afraid to admit out loud. And then, the turning point—the surprise of connection, the shock of familiarity, the indescribable sense of “this feels right” that sometimes arrives without warning.

The poem is a story, but one that reflects a shared human experience.

Four Tracks, Four Perspectives

To bring this story to life musically, the EP unfolds across four interpretations of the same narrative moment—each one illuminating a different emotional angle.

01. The First Date
The foundational track, blending poetry with atmospheric music to present the full narrative as it was originally written.

02. The First Date (Destiny)
A rendition focused on the theme of alignment—when two paths cross in a way that feels bigger than coincidence.

03. The First Date (Serendipity)
Anoter EDM interpretation highlighting the delightful unpredictability of chance encounters.

04. The First Date (Sweet Demise)
A darker EDM rendition and more dramatic, that leans into the intoxicating intensity of attraction and the beauty of emotional surrender.

Each version offers a different lens, giving listeners the space to revisit the same story with shifting emotional color.

Why This Release Comes First

Releasing The First Date on December 5 sets the stage for what follows. A week later, on December 12, its instrumental transformation will open Winter Rhapsody Volume 1: Dawn of Solitude, the first installment of a five-volume instrumental anthology.

I wanted listeners to meet the piece in its narrative form first—to understand its heartbeat—before encountering its wordless counterpart within the winter soundscape. The instrumental version will echo the themes, emotions, and atmosphere of the original poem, but through a colder, more solitary sonic palette.

This EP acts as the prelude before winter arrives.

A Creative Journey Into Emotion

The emotions The First Date touches are real—the excitement of possibility, the fear of the unknown, the instant familiarity that sometimes strikes without warning. My goal was to create a piece that anyone could see themselves in, regardless of their own experiences.

This EP is for those who love storytelling, atmospheric textures, and the delicate space where poetry meets music.

I’m excited to share this world with you.
